Mr Tichaona Kumirai is currently working as a senior research engineer in the innovative infrastructure research unit of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) of South Africa. He holds two masters degrees; MSc Applied Science Mechanics from the University of Pretoria, South Africa and an M Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Central University of Technology, South Africa. His research interests include air borne infection control focusing on engineering control measures such as UVGI, aerosol filtration, Mechanical and natural ventilation and building energy efficiency. He developed a standard technical specification for design, installation, commissioning and maintenance for Upper Room Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation for South Africa healthcare facilities. He is currently involved in the drafting of guidelines for application of UVGI for SARS-CoV-2 surface disinfection.
